personal experience
A little about me….so….I have been in the industry for over 20 years now. This time has involved working across many salons in Carlisle. Also working in Manchester I developed skills with enrolment at the RazorEdge Academy and being selected on completion to work in their Oxford Road Branch. Alongside the salon environment I have worked freelance and offer services from home or mobile. Over the years I have completed many courses on colour, product knowledge and skill development. Ever a passion I keep a keen eye on the industry, current trends and ever evolving techniques.

working ethos
I work as a freelance hairdresser because, quite simply, it suits me and I think it suits my clients too. Without the noise, rush and rigid structure of a traditional salon, I can give each person more of my time, attention and experience. I can listen properly. I can look at your hair properly, and importantly, I can actually get to know it. Good hair isn’t just about what you want to do today. It’s about understanding where your hair has been, where you want it to go, what it can realistically do, and how we get there without completely destroying it along the way.
I’ve always loved transformation!…..Not just a freshen-up or keeping things ticking over, but that moment when someone looks in the mirror and thinks, “Yes!…There I am.” Hair has a strange amount of power over how we see ourselves….weird but true! It also affects how other people see us too. It can make us feel more confident, more expressive, younger, stronger, softer, sexier, more like ourselves… or sometimes just like we’ve finally got our shit together. So making people feel great, different, better…..it’s a good way to spend my time. This is why I’ve become increasingly interested in transformational hair rather than maintenance hair. The kind of work you see online that makes you stop scrolling. Beautiful colour, considered cuts, proper changes….work that has impact. That doesn’t necessarily mean doing something dramatic every time. Sometimes transformation is subtle. Sometimes it’s finally finding the colour you’ve been trying to describe for ten years. Sometimes it’s getting your shape right. Sometimes it’s undoing years of “just take a little bit off.”
A transformational appointment might cost more than simply popping in for a quick service, but the aim is that you get more from it too: a result that works harder, lasts longer and reduces the need to keep coming back for little fixes that never quite get you where you want to be. I’d rather spend the time getting it right than spend less time doing something that doesn’t really move the needle. Freelancing gives me the freedom to work this way, take my time with you and aim for your ideal ‘instagram hair’ together.
There’s no conveyor belt of appointments, no rushing you through because the next person is already waiting. We can take our time, talk about what you’re actually trying to achieve, and make decisions based on your hair rather than what happens to fit neatly into a salon timetable. The experience is valid as much as outcome…You should be able to walk in, switch off for a while and feel completely looked after. No pressure to make conversation if you don’t fancy it. No judgement. No need to perform. Just a safe, relaxed space where you can settle into the day knowing you’re going to leave looking bloody brilliant.
Because ultimately, hair is only partly about hair. We’re all changing as we go through life. Our tastes change. Our confidence changes. Our bodies change. The person we are at 25 isn’t necessarily the person we want to present at 35, 45 or 55. Sometimes your hair needs to catch up. That’s the bit of hairdressing I’ve always found fascinating, helping someone uncover a version of themselves that feels a little more them.
So that’s where I’m at with my work now. Less maintenance for maintenance’s sake. Less doing something simply because that’s how it’s always been done. More thought. More experience. More transformation.
And, hopefully, really fucking good hair x
